Sorry had to go out today so I'm afraid I let you down with the doggy bit today, Zoe I would love you to 'do' Hudson tomorrow, thanks very much, I am getting loads of e mails from people enjoying the 'bit' about our dogs so thank you not only from me but everyone else who is reading the blog!.

Sorry Elle - the grass seen bit is obviously a training thing not a breeding thing ;-) !!!!!!!!!

Brodie

Sharon your piece on young Brodie was wonderful! And the bruising on your legs from his wagging tail, I have got a couple to prove it! I do love the full bum wiggle instead of just the tail. Ceilidh was running and doing the wiggle at the same time on our walk yesterday, wish I had taken the camera to get a video of it. You start to panic that she will tumble over head first just from excitement!
Brodie really is a star. Gregor is really lookingforward to looking after him on Saturday.
Elle, if you met Brodie not only would you fall head over heels for him but you would seriously struggle not to try to take him home with you.

Zoe

No it was Brodie! There were a few posts of the pups where Judith/Ali got the names wrong :) Something to do with the way they were juggled up when stored on the camera. If you look back at the old posts I think you'll see the same pup with 3 different names against it (http://blitzan.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html) but the upside down one is definately Brodie :)
Looking forward to your post on Hudson - I hope he's coming along well too.

Brodie Upside down puppie pic

Just noticed was it not Hudson (Totti) upside down in the puppy pictures?

Fridays Dog

Geat reading about all the dog ditties! I will do Hudson tommorrow unless anyone else wants to be Friday?

Sorry not posted much Charlie's off from nursery so having to entertain!!! Will try to get more pictures of Hudson today for tomorrows piece!

Hope everyone's been enjoying the weather! Bit overcast here today though

Grass seeds...........

Love the way Ali says her dogs have never had a problem with them - No MY Blitzan gets them all!!!! LOL.

ps. Brodie does sound lovely - but no - not getting broody for a brodie!!!

Brodie

Lovely reading about Brodie, he sounds such a lovely boy and very handsome. Love the pic of him as a puppy upside down on the table )lol

Brodie

Lovely 'bit' on Brodie, couldn't help smiling as I read it, thanks Sharon for taking the time to write it for us, I will definitely do one of mine tomorrow can I have a volunteer for Fridays dog please.
The pictures are lovely as always too, thank you.

Do you know in all the years I have had dogs and the number of dogs I have had over the years I have never (touch wood) had a problem with a grass seed, in ears, feet or eyes, I count myself lucky for that.
Great 'bit' on Brodie very special these munsters, I'm also so pleased that I've got in to the breed and feel lucky, that I've got a munster, that I've got Ilka as shes my favorite out of the litter and lucky to know about all you other munster owns and your munsters and hopefully going to meet some of you soon, when I first thought about getting one all I was expecting was to have a great pet and working dog that I would just train, work and have some fun with, I did not realise all the other bonuses!!

Grass Seeds!

Zeb shakes his head a lot when he has picked up a grass seed (think for him this is the fourth!!) and sometimes hangs his head over to the one side! He is clearly not happy about it - and - we now recognise the signs with him!!! BUT our other dog Gus is a bit of a head shaker anyway! so maybe some are harder to recognise it in? If on a walk, or after a walk you notice signs of a grass seed penetration - the sooner you get it removed the better - they can even work down through the ear drum! or up into the leg if in the foot. 'orrible nasty things!!!

Brodie

Sharon, that was lovely to read about Brodie. He sounds a wonderful dog, Domino does the tail/whole back end wagging thing, I think it's lovely.

I used to have a Whippet who had tummy problems and the vet always used to say feed him Chappie. Also when my mum's whippet was poorly a few months ago, she was on a Chappie diet for a few days. It does the trick but it does stink of fish!

BRODIE

What a beautiful write up on your lovely boy Sharon. Because I have met him, I guess I can relate to your descriptions of him and can totally confirm what you say about his fantastic outgoing personality etc. Given half a chance, I would steal him away from you, and he is certainly doing a lot to promote the munsters to a still 'slightly reluctant Frank' who is of the opinion one is fine...two will kill me....what a way to go though lol.

Ali, so pleased about Prima's eye test. Hope Diva is OK now and god forbid the tummy upset doesn't do the rounds...a nightmare with all of your gang. I made an appt. for Jess to go to the vet but she seems to be over it this morning.
I used to use Chappie with Jig as he has terrible digestive problems, so I took your advice and got a tin to try with Jess. Fresh cooked chicken and rice, and fresh cooked fish and rice didn't seem to help...but halleleuha... chappie seems to have won the day.

Judith, Elle, Ali

Judith, well done at the Leeds show - I'm not sure what "Limit Dog" or "VHC" really means but it sounds like you did well!!! :)

Elle, what happens when they get grass seeds in their ears? Do you just notice them rubbing and if it's left too long can you see redness? Brodie doesn't have a problem but it would be good to know what the signs are because he does run through long grass with seeds regularly.

Ali/Andrew, Well done on Prima's eye test. I can't imagine Brodie sitting still to get that done. I think a lot more training's needed first. Looks like your family all enjoy the beach too.

Brodie

Brodie was born on the 12th March this year so is now 4.5 months. He’s my first dog, and so far I’m thinking not my last, so things are obviously going well most of the time!
We travelled from Scotland to Bristol to see Judith’s pups. We don’t quite know the reason we choose “3 Spot”. We both wanted a dog with lots of black, and 3 Spot was one of the whitest in the litter. But he was the one that we were both most attracted to, and we’re so glad we choose him. He was the one that had his own ideas of how to stand for his debut Web solo photo!

Now we really love Brodie’s colours. He regularly gets confused as a Dalmatian, especially by children. Then the parents correct the children and tell them he’s a spotty Spaniel! We are now, thankfully, at the stage that he’s big enough for people to think twice about what he actually is, and we’ve met a few people who have known he’s a munster.
The best words I can think of to describe Brodie are confident and friendly. Since he is my first dog, it is difficult for me to judge his personality as I’ve not much to compare him to. However when we first started our puppy parties I soon realized that he was different from the other pups; he was the one who was full of zest and wanted to meet every other dog and person that he possibly could with his tail wagging constantly. When we moved on to puppy training he was just the same. He was the character in the class and he made sure everyone knew who he was. He is regularly the center of attention, and loves when people make a fuss over him. His tail wags constantly. In fact often his complete back end is wagging too! I was stopped in the town shopping area the other week by an old lady to say Brodie was the happiest dog she’d ever seen. He’d just walked through a group of about 20 people waiting for a bus and I’m sure his wagging tail had just assaulted every one of them. My legs are constantly covered in bruises.
He hasn’t done any damage around the house and doesn’t chew at things he shouldn’t, although he loves running off with dirty washing and my hair brush. He’s a bit more destructive in the garden and enjoys chewing on plants and digging. He regularly comes in to the house with a mucky mouth and licks it off on to my clothes; so my washing load has increased significantly since he arrived.
He sleeps well – goes down about 10.30pm and gets up normally between 7.30am and 8.30am. Long may it last.
He loves walking and would never wants to show to anyone that he’s tired. His favorite walks are on the beach. He loves running through the waves and chasing the seagulls and oyster catchers. His favorite are the oyster catchers since they’re slower moving and talk back to him.
He often sits or lies in the garden watching the birds, and is always finding feathers. He often goes out into the garden alone and sits upright checking to see if everything is as it should be. It looks like he is guarding his land.

He enjoys playing with toys. His favorite is an annoying squeaky chicken that our neighbor gave him. It makes the most awful noise that Brodie just loves. You cannot hear yourself think when he is “on the chicken”. We nearly lost it in the garden last night but unfortunately Brodie’s retrieving is getting quite good and he managed to sniff it out.

When Jim starts making dinner in the evening he says Brodie knows it means I’ll be home from work soon and he immediately goes to the hall window which overlooks the driveway and sits and waits for me coming home from work. My hall window is covered in his slavers. Like my clothes, I have to clean my windows more often now too!

He’s still developing his personality (I’m told he’s starting his teenage phase – oh dear) so it will be interesting to see what he becomes over the next year. Currently he’s 21.5 inch height to the shoulders, and 21.6 kg in weight.

So like Sophie said about Ilka, Brodie is special to me since he is my first dog too. Jim has had lots of dogs in the passed but it appears Brodie is already his favorite. We’re both delighted we choose this breed, and feel lucky that Judith allowed us to have Brodie.

Well done on the clear eyes Prima and great pics Ali.

Eye tests

Andrew took Prima for her eye test today as he had to go on to Cirencester and the eye test clinic was in Bristol. He has come home so proud of Prima. I always take the dogs for this sort of thing sometimes Andrew comes to hold on to the others but this time it was all down to him. Prima apparently sat where she was told, didn't flinch, didn't move and didn't even blink, Professor Bedford said she was by far the star of the day, such a sweetie and so good and trusting, Andrew has now fallen totally for Prima, something James and I have always felt about baby Prima. Funny thing I don't think Andrew has ever done much with Prima until today, so he was pleasantly surprised, she was so good with it all. Still gets travel sick though!

Thanxs

Thank you all for the welldone's. I was very very please with Stella. The pics of the beach are lovely.
Weathers been horrible here today, Lauren took Majik out first this morning and the pair of them came back like drowned rats, well Lauren liked more like she been in a wet t-shirt comp.!!!!
She'll kill me now for writing that or worse still stop taking the dogs out!!

Ali, lovely beach photos

I wish we had come down with you now, they all look like they were having great fun. After gym club, I took the kids down to West Bay to see the sea, the waves were huge because it's blowing a gale down there today. We didn't have Domino with us unfortunately. Will have to arrange go down in the next couple of days as it was relatively quiet when the sun isn't shining.

Beach

Great photos Ali, love the ones of James in the sea. What beech is that - it looks a great one for the dogs. Maggie so enjoyed the beach on holiday, it's sad that I live so far away from the coast. I've been trying to find out where my nearest dog friendly beach is so maybe I could take a day trip down to one.

Visit to the Beach

Tarka, Prima and Logi, and not fogetting James too!!!!!

Zeb and a seasonal thing!!!

Just a reminder - grass seed time!!! Zeb got one in his ear yesterday, and had to be taken to the vet to have it removed - he was as good as gold and stayed totally still whilst the vet inserted light and forceps to remove it!!! A wonderful temperament - Blitzan Rendition - did not make a sound!!!!

Well done Strider and Stella at Leeds

WELL DONE JUDITH, STELLA, STRIDER AND ALL WHO WENT

Amazing video Karen its amazing how animals remeber.

Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btuxO-C2IzE

This is the most moving video, brought a tear to my eyes. People say animals are incapable of loving in the way we do, but this just proves that wrong.

CONGRATULATIONS

Judith, Stella and Strider and everyone else at Leeds today.
Oh, I noticed another Rixbriar girl but it was not under Judiths name it was under Taylor so congratulations to them too! And to everyone else who was at Leeds today.

WELLDONE STRIDER & STELLA

Just had a quick check and Strider came first in Limit dog and Stella bella was VHC in her class. Looked to be a big entry again so that is a great achievement for them both!!
Any news on Judith at Leeds? I really hope they did well.

What did you think of the picture I emailed you Sharon? put it opn the blog if you do not want to try it for the calendar.
We shoudl try to arrange a meet for the blog anually for each end of the country. Well once a year in Scotland where everyone comes up, and once a year in England where we all go down. Could be really great fun!!!
Sharon - Do you think you could 'do' a bit on Brodie for Wednesday as I am going to visit my family in Devon for the day so if someone could sort Wednesday that would be wonderful.

Love the pictures of your walk, Ceilidh is growing up so fast, so is Bodie for that matter.

Dogs Tummies are alot better today, a little toxic in the air but they have just had some Chicken and Rice and gobbled it down. Whatever caused it I think it has passed through thier system. Lyndsey how about Chappie, my vets swears by tin chappie and wholemeal mixer to sort out colitis troubles, I think it's because Chappie is fish and cereal based it tends to dry them up. Just food for thought so to speak. Will try my lot back on thier Duck and Rice tomorrow but instead of thier cooked meat I will go with Chicken and see how they go.

Off to the beach this evening - Karen C. been trying to call you, if your about this afternoon and are free for a few minutes can I pick your brains again!!!!!
Brilliant pics of your walk, and lovely piece on Domino she is very beautiful.
Having trouble with putting the video on munstermag video blog.

Poorly tums

Lyn,  we managed to settle Leia's tummy with, of all things, Butcher's tripe!!  She had a very sensitive tum and it was the only thing that worked every time.  The vet put us on to it.

Everyone else - I'm really enjoying the little 'potraits' of the different dogs and the photos are gorgeous.
Yes, the walk was wonderful yesterday; we just didn’t want to leave! Frank and Brodie both seemed to be enjoying their “cuddle” together at the end of the walk :) And Ceilidh was looking and behaving so much more mature. Your collies are all so well behaved Lyn, it was nice to meet the other two. I hope the paw was ok. Thanks to you both for sharing the photos you took. How are the midgie bites today? :(

Great write-ups and photos of the dogs. It's nice to read about their personalities. Will try and do one for you on Brodie soon.

Sunday Photos.

Thought I had published photos but they don't seem to have appeared...apologies if I make a mess of this.

Sunday Walk

What a brilliant walk we had yesterday. It was so hot and I think that the beauty of the scenary around Loch Ard is hard to beat anywhere in Scotland. It's the first time in years that midges have drawn blood on me though...maybe its all the antibiotics I have been on. All the dogs get on so well, it is amazing. Last time I only took two of the collies because I thought the munsters might be overwhelmed...oh my... my memory must be worse than I thought...
I couldn't believe how much Brodie had grown, he is just gorgeous, such a character.... I really think that he sold munsters to Frank yesterday.Elspeth & I had a wee giggle when we watched Frank rough and tumbling him after the walk. I think Frank and a munster would be a marriage made in heaven. Frank has even picked a name for Prima's pup...Gunner..but I think I will spell it with an a..Gunnar..it has a sort of German ring to it as well..so he is 'gunna' have to be a big bold fella..sort of like Brodie. I found the piccie of Axel Elspeth,.. god he is stunning!!!! Ceilidh is really maturing now she has had her season, I do hope she does well for you Elspeth at the National Gundog. I do envy you going down there..it is such a beautiful part of the country.
Ali, so sorry to hear Diva is unwell. There seem to be an awful lot of tummy upsets doing the rounds this year. I can't seem to get my wee Jess sorted at all. She is nearly 12 and the vets have done a complete set of tests, blood, swabs etc and she has had 2 courses of antibiotics as well and still she is squitty. I am at my wits end as to what to feed her next. She normally has the James Wellbeloved senior light, but I have had her on fish and rice for days now and still she is not right. Any suggestions from anybody would be more than welcome.
Well I am going to try to put up the best of the weekend piccies..I think there are a couple of super ones of Brodie and Ceilidh and also Frank's Flyn and my Jess.

Domino - Wintersmorn Breeze

A very loyal girl, who will be 8 years old in November. We drove all the way to Nottingham (twice) to choose and bring her home. We had no idea what a challenge she would be, she was such a cute puppy. She still thinks she's a puppy and will steal the children's soft toys and run around the garden with them. She definitely owns us rather than the other way round and has a bit too much to say for herself.

She gets excited at anything, from me going to outside to hang out the washing to putting on my walking boots. She loves being in the garden but not unless there's someone out there with her. Her favourite pastime is chasing the Jackdaws and pigeons out of the garden so they don't steal all the food for the small birds (that's probably not the reason she does it), but she's never caught a bird.

She loves people and she remembers who will let her jump and wash them all over. She knows which visitors are likely to have a dog biscuit in their pocket and will not leave them alone until she gets one. She loves going for walks with her friends, running on the beach and digging holes is great fun. She will walk miles and will not stop until we do, here she is after a good 7 mile walk.

We all love Domino, she is a beautiful and loving dog and always much admired by others.

Morning

Lovely pictures Elspeth, especially like the bottom one of Ceildih.

Getting back to normality after a week away and have to start working this morning - YUK! Had 123 emails to get through when I got back, and the phone has already started ringing. ho hum. First things first though, took Maggie for a lovely walk early this morning, sun shining, birds singing and all very quiet - lovely.

Hope your doggies tummies are better Ali, sorry you had to miss Leeds.

Sweet video of Ilka Sophie.

Sunday 27 July 2008

Just a few pics from todays walk. Sharon, I have emailed you one of Brodie that I love. I just wondered if you would want to send it to Ali for the callendar?

Ever so soppy Ilka

Excuse noise Charlie was watching tv

I will try and put a different video on Munster mag video ect later Elle

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDREW AND ELLE

Sorry to hear about you dogs Ali and that you can't go to Leeds but good luck every one else.
Yep pony clubbing ect great fun, Charlies pony (before we got her) used to do prince Phillip Cup and allot sorts when we went in the field to mess about Charlie spent allot of the time up against the hedge trying to slow down lol and my boy Polo is scared of barrels so all good fun. The place where we used to go for lessons ect is just like the 'thelwell ponies' sort of thing, its so relaxed and so chaotic its brilliant fun.
And poor Maggie.

Sunny Sunday

Sorry haven't done my bit today a bit tied up today with dogs with upset tummies, so I shall look forward to Domino's write up tomorrow, thank you Karen.

Poor Maggie bless her, lucky it wasn't in the actual surface of the eye, what a good girl to let you get it out for her.

Hope everyone is enjoying the gorgeous weather, oh and by the way not able to go to Leeds as Diva is the only one entered and she is poorly, so a bit disappointed but it can't be helped, after all I go to the shows so the dogs and I enjoy it not just for me,
GOOD LUCK JUDITH, STRIDER & STELLA.

Happy Birthday to Andrew and Elle

Hi all

Just about catching up, been washing and ironing all weekend but have sat down now and read what I've missed while I've been away.

Happy Birthday Elle & Andrew!

Love the photo of your husband Elle surrounded by all your dogs.

Welcome Tor, sorry you lost your flatcoat Leia - she looked a pretty dog.

Great piece on Ilka and Tarka and some great photos. I loved the photo of Ilka on the chair Sophie - that black chair looked nice with her colouring.

Also great picture of Lyn and the collies.

Hope I havne't missed anything. Really hot here today, went out early this morning for a walk before it got too hot. Last night after a late evening walk Maggie kept rubbing her eye. I looked in it but couldn't see anything so washed it in salt water. Later I noticed it had got worse and was bothering her so I took her into the kitchen where the light is brighter and saw a thorn sticking into her bottom eyelid! Poor thing, must have been so uncomfortable. I managed to pull the eyelid down and get hold of it and pull it out. She was very good and amazingly kept her head still long enough for me to do it.

Birthdays

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ELLE AND ANDREW, HAVE A GREAT DAY.

Sophie your pics and write up was lovely.

Saturday 26 July 2008

Fantastic piece on Ilka, I adore the black and white one of her on the seat with Sids little nose popping out from below! Such a cutie!
Ali, maybe Pima is holding off so she doesn't need mated until a day or 2 after Paignton so I can come and see Alex too. That is very kind of her but please ask her not to wait if that is the case!

It looks like you had a fantastic holiday Karen! Maggie certainly got out and about!

Come on Prima!

Hurry up and come in season, I need a puppy! Promise I'll send you some special treats to keep you going.

Excellent pic Sophie, that made me giggle. Lovely horse photos too. I haven't ridden for years, but when we go to Cornwall, I'm going to take Charlotte to a nearby stables and have a couple of lessons with her.

OK Ali, I'll do Monday with Domino.
Excellent photo Sophie, really good! Pony club's and Gymkhanas takes me back, great fun aren't they.

Will do a feature on one of mine tomorrow will you do Monday please Karen whilst I am away at Leeds Champ show.

What fantastic Horse shots really special.

Prima is still not in season yet............ always the way when your waiting the girls seem to take extra long.

Some one tell Charlie it's only the flags that go in the barrel.

Sorry total unrelated (well it's pony related) but I hope it makes you smile.
Ali apart form the pic of Ilka on the chair which other(s) did you want? you can have as many as you like I've put most my pics under the label 'Ilka/Sid photos' I will send what ever you want.
Elle like the horse pics.
And glad you like my bit on Ilka.
And wellcome back Karen great pics glad you had a nice time.

Horses - by "Goff".

I have asked Ali - and she okayed the use of non dog pics - for a change!!! Sorting my files and - feel these two are too good to waste! taken by Goff Bragg.

Friday 25 July 2008

Sophie, that was a lovely write up about Ilka and great photos.

Karen, glad you had a nice holiday, the weather looked lovely, and Maggie looks like she was having a fantastic time. Domino loves holidays as it means loads more walks and visits to the beach. Did Maggie dig any holes in the sand?

Ali, can I do a 'bit' about Domino perhaps Sunday or Monday, I'm not home to find photos until then.

We're back!

The farm house in the distance is where we stayed. We had a 100 acres of beautiful land to walk on as we pleased

Which Maggie just loved !

And a river at the bottom of the valley -Maggie heaven! It was such a steep valled that the walk back up to the farm house every day nearly killed me!
Posted by Picasa
This photo was taken at Tintagnal Castle. We climbed 150 steep narrow steps to the top. Maggie had to be on a headcollar for her and my safety - didn't want her pulling me over the edge! She accepted this without a fuss. What a good girl.

Great veiws and very windy!

She enjoyed a bit of rock climbing with the kids

And looking for crabs

Sophie

What a lovely bit about Ilka, just great, really helps to get to know her better. Love the pictures especially the top one with Sid's nose peeking out, can you e mail me that one as well as the one I have seen of Ilka in the Buttercup field please, best quality you have please Sophie, hope that's OK. Another dog to be featured tomorrow.

Thanks again Sophie really great bit!
She loved the beach

And the sea!

And like everyone else that met Maggie, this little dog fell in love with her!

We had a great holiday, the weather was perfect and Cornwall was beautiful. Maggie came absolutely everywhere with us with out a problem and was a delight to be with. She hopped into the car everyday ready for a day's adventure and travelled very well. She was slept by my side everynight totally exhausted - but think she enjoyed it!

Hope everyone is well - I think I will have a lot to catch up with!

Catch up

Sorry been out and about since the beginning of the summer holidays!!!!!!!
Absolutely brilliant pictures of Ilka Sophie especially the one with Sid in the background.

Lyn"You don't think James has put her on the pill on the quiet do you??"
Unfortunately Lyn I haven't been able to find it... still looking though !!!!
might try the family planning clinic later though!!!!!!!

Ilka - Blizan Truly Dazzling

Right where do I start........Spot Sid in the b/w pic
Well she has a character all of her own or should that be a mind of her own, I've not yet worked it out.
She is full of fun is interested in every thing, in to every thing and after every thing form a helicopter to a leaf (the leaf does not even have to be moving for her to dive on it, then only to realise it's just a leaf and spit it out), is very noisy likes to have a bark normally trying to tell you some thing like give me attention, she loves all attention to be just for her if one of us is making a fuss of Sid she gets very jealous and comes to stick her big black nose in.
She loves to run and run if there is something she can see or smell that's shes after or if Sid is yapping at her heels even better. She loves to roll (maybe she got this from Tarka) more often than not she will have a roll in wet grass or something smelly at least once. She found a new way to bring mud in the house, she sort of eats it so brings in muddy slobber the water in her bowl this morning was brown from mud, she loves to pick things up like bits of pipe needed for the toilet (it's not plumbed in yet) Charlie's soft toys are also a favorite along with the usual many other bits and pieces.
Also she has a very sweet tooth, she likes chocolate (of course we never give her any) but she has nicked 'chocolaty things' like cakes and sits in front of you if your eating something she likes and sometimes puts in a little moan.
But I think when shes got all the puppy out of her she will be very soppy the pic above shows her 'soppy face' all you have to do is rub her chest when shes sat on the sofa and she goes all floppy and cuddly. She makes us laugh and is all ways up to something and has allot of presence you can tell if shes in the same room as you even if you've not seen her I noticed this when I went baby sitting the persons house felt very empty with out her.
So that's Ilka my first dog and first munster which makes her very special.
