Hi Rosie, a couple of ideas, I prefer not to use painkillers unless the dog is really in a lot of pain as the trouble is they are not sensible enough to think, in other words the pain has gone so we can run as normal, even though the injury is still there. BUT if the pain killers are being given as anti inflammatory to help the knee mend then you will have to keep using them, if they are just to make him more comfortable then I would leave them out I know it sound cruel and I certainly don't think he should be in agony just a litter uncomfortable. the other thing is how about hydrotherapy, that way he could swim off his excess energy with out any strain on the injury. Otherwise good luck I know it can be murder. As for the tripe sticks the ones Judith and I use are Hollings or Davies (I get them at my wholesaler for the both of us) they can be smelly, but not like silage! and my lot love them another great thing is pigs ears, smoked filled bones, roast bones and beef hide chews, all should keep him occupied for a while. The other thing would be to fill a kong with soaked mushy dog biscuit and great cheese and tuna, stuffed when warm then put in freezer to freeze they then spend hours trying to get at the tasty filling I also have biscuit bones, rubber toys that you can put biscrok biscuits in and the dog then chews to get biscuits out, she the link to shop and manufacturer. http://www.companyofanimals.co.uk/products.php
Karen, Maggie is really growing up into a lovely young lady, have you had her spayed as she looks like she is maturing quickly?
