With regards to holidays, I did some googling looking at what the options may be if we wanted to go away next year and there are some sites dedicated to places you can stay with dogs including cottages etc.

Brittany Ferries website has a section about travel with dogs including hints and tips about what to do and links to sites to get PETS passport etc. They also have the details about the kennels available on board. A useful place to start certainly.

There seems to be a lot of sites with places, it'll possibly depend when you want to go and the route you want to take.
