Cut pads are a complete nightmare and even worse trying to keep the dressing dry - especially in deep snow which is what it was when Elsa cut hers. I think we must have lost at least half a dozen boots dotted around under the snow. Maggie has also done this before at least once. I ended up buying loads of vet wrap and cotton wool and dressing it myself once the vet showed me how because no matter what boot you put on it always seems to come off and the dressing gets wet and needs to be changed. By the time the cut had healed I'd become quite the expert in dressing their paws! I have tried every dog boot under the sun I think. There are some rubbery disposable ones you can get, they lasted about one field I think - completely useless. I brought one with lace ups. That seemed to hold better than anything else I tried but I had to wrap gaffer tape round the top to stop the laces undoing. Oh and once their paw is all nicely wrapped up, they don't feel any pain and there is no way you can keep them quiet. Good luck.
When Theo cut his rear paw and had staples, we made a bootie out of some old vinyl chair covering. But a neighbour who works spaniels recommended 'Gaffer Tape' from B&Q. The vet fitted an elizabethan collar, too, but Theo still managed to work his way around it. In desperation, we kept him in our room overnight and we've never managed to get him out!
Poor Troy, you can buy dog boots the protect their feet. I'm sure Karen with Elsa and Maggie has used them to protect an injury. Hope his foots heals quickly.

Naughty Logan, Mazy was good at that too!!
Hi everyone Troy has had a little accident. He has sliced one of his pads quite badly so off to the vets. They said he needed staples to help it heal thatis no problem then we were told to keep him quiet and keep the dressing dry. He has to go back on tuesday for it redressing. What i would like to find out is does anyone know what to cover it with for his toilet walks to keep it dry we went through three plastic bags this afternoon on one walk. So far he hasnt tried to take it off but he hasnt been left alone yet.

Logan caught in the act

It wasn't me honest....as if butter wouldn't melt!

Wednesday 28 April 2010

Hi everyone the pictures are going on here, Well done to people who when to welks. Sandra i was ill all weekend after friday due to getting sunburnt, still not a 100%.
Morning - Gorgeous pictures on here everyone, Coco is nearly as heavy as Bree now, funny to think how quickly they even out as Bree was by far the heaviest and Coco (Uhu) was by far the lightest, she is obviously very happy and content with you both. Logan is very like his Grandfather Logi, so laid back he is horizontal!! Sounds like all the babies are doing very well, at the end of the day they are 10 weeks old, they can very often be loonies at this age! It's usually around this age when they are just becoming old enough to get out into the big wide world, Chumleigh and Bree are still having fun together although we are making them sleep apart and have some time apart as I think Alex may have a few niggles when Chumleigh goes back to be an only child, the pair are just so biddable. I have has a phone call and email from Alex and Rob who are missing Chumleigh very much, wont be long and you'll be home and back with her.

Sandra, I have had sunstroke, stupidly a few times, I think it is often deceiving just how hot it gets at Malvern, nestled in the hills it's a bit of a sun trap. Make sure you keep drinking lots of water.

Sue, I like your thinking and often read what you say and totally agree, but this time I have to say I am 100% behind you as been through the same - Men who do the puppy training!!!!!!!! James and Prima were a nightmare and Andrew with Tetra in the early days, all OK now but I am doing Bree myself, need I say more!

I am loving this weather I just hope it doesn't mean we are in for a wet Summer, still enjoy whilst it's here.

Coco

Well we've just weighed Coco and she weighs 7.5kg, so has put on just over 1kg in one week!......as you can guess she loves her food.

She is doing very well and is very quick at learning, she can sit and give boths paws, problem is she gets so excited to have a treat that she sits and then waves her paw about before I've even asked for it :)

We have started to take her on little walks, which she loves especially because she a nosey puppy so likes to stop outside every house and have a look about.

Below are a few pic's from just over a week ago:

Don't Chase the Big White Ducks !!!

Sorry I think I crossed posted. Logan looks to have settled in to his new home very well, and nice to see he is making himself useful taking the little dog for a walk !!!!

What really lovely photos.

Ali, the black light torch is quite useful. Ian told me it was called a Catty Pee torch, but I think he must have been joking. These torches only work in the dark and stuff like urine, blood & semen become fluorescent. However, it also picks up on anything white like cotton wool, paper and whatever fibre is in the coir we have upstairs. But,it's quite a useful tool. I assume it would work on dog urine as I think it is supposed to work with human urine, hence them being used in crime scenes - you sometimes see forensics use them on TV cop shows.

Judith, we used to have a sandpit for Wooster. He was really bad at going on it and used to refuse to go at all - we took him out on a lead as a pup to that area and praised him etc etc In the end, we let him use the little area in which we had built the sandpit. Unless he were worried about border invaders, he always used that area and it's still known as Wooster's patch. He took to burying bones in the sand pit :) I taught Beecham to go on the drive as it's gravel and easy to pick up, but he's got into bad habits because of Bosco. Bosco goes wherever he likes, usually in a flower bed or on a flower. He's the only one of the three LMs not to use a particular area. In fact, he's also very good at destroying the garden. I wonder if all of that would just be coincidence or because Ian did 99.9% of his puppy training, lol.

Pits etc should work after all you can buy those posts for the dogs to widdle up.....
Good luck with it.

Sue
Thanks for the good wishes everyone, not sure what it was, but I developed a splitting headache on the way back from WELKS, then on Saturday and Sunday, didn't feel at all well kept going hot and cold, but I was fine by yesterday, and took the girls out to a place that has both Woods and Lakes they think it is Munster heaven.
I didn't take the camera with me but I am sure I have some photos from there taken a while back and will try and pop one up.
We hit all the Birmingham traffic last Friday, so was quite late getting home, Dee Dee was one very tired puppy, she really enjoyed meeting up with everyone and all the fuss and attention, and she thought it was great to see her brother Milo and sisters Izzy and Kody again.
Narla insisted on giving Izzzy a good washing, and she just adored Milo she kept rolling on her back next to him, just like she used to when she fed them, don't think he needs breast feeding now, he is a lovely boy and stands taller than his mother now. So laid back he just took everything in his stride. Thanks Aly for all your help on the day, and it was great to meet up again.
Izzy and Kody had both also grown up so much, they all behaved so well on the day I was just like a clucking mother hen, so proud of them all.
Loved all the recent pictures, and Bree and Chumleigh are so cute, and I must admit I did think Illy was black, at first, but no matter what colour size or shape, they are all lovely. I think Munsterlanders are just such natural clowns, so full of life, and such a joy to own, you can't help but laugh at them !!! I know just seeing the pictures on here always makes me smile.

Latest Logan update

Logan is such a sweetie and growing at a rate of knots, he has put on 4.8 lbs in two weeks, he is eating his dinner quicker than Tyler eats his and you have to be quick to stop him launching into Tyler's bowl! He used to be a bit of a grazer....not any more.

House training, sounds very similar to Lola, he will go out side most of the time but on the odd occasion he will leave a puddle on the floor! So it has been back to basics with him getting treats every time he 'goes' out side, we will get there eventually.

It was the first trip to the vets yesterday for his final jab. He wasn't phased a bit, even when he was chipped, he didn't flinch - nothing seems to bother him at all, he seemed more interested in watching the vet update something on the computer! Looking forward to taking him out with Tyler which we can do this weekend, so I should be able to get some 'Flying Ear' photos and some good photos the pair of them together without it being too blurred!

Logan met my parents dog for the first time at the weekend when they popped in. She is a Carin Terrier at at the age of 14 she wasn't that impressed by Logan but seemed to be ok when he tried talking her for a walk - see photo!

So nice to see all the pictures of his sisters online, all growing quickly too.

Maggie and Elsa tend to do most of theirs on a walk but still leaves some to pick up. We had one of those bins once too Karen and found it utterly useless even with one dog. We bury ours in the field - bit disgusting when it rains though and my mother once fell into it - long story but she wasn't very happy to say the least so now we keep a lid on it. The sand pit sounds a great idea, it would be lovely to keep it all in one place and being on sand would make it easy to pick up. I'm trying to do the opposite with Simba at the moment so he stops using his litter tray and goes out side )lol

I can see Illy looks brown - she is a lovely colour and very pretty. Does look blacker in the second two pictures but her head still looks brown.

Bree looks like she is enjoying having her sisters to stay - they are growing fast. I love the picture of Chumleigh curled up with the cat - so sweet.

Scooping and pits!

Karen I tend to get mine out in the field for 99% of the needs, so not too much scooping, but enough! Mudlarks is being set up so the dogs have their own garden, their area will come off one side and is huge, big enough to run around in and go mad in if they so wish. I will try the pit area Judith, been thinking about it and thought if I set up an area down the end out of the way, it would be great if they used it and kept the mess in one area. I have never used a pit and the only person I know who did use one was The DeSa in New York, they had a garden of about 2 acres, and outside one area they had a fenced off area, inside there was a sand pit area, every time they took William out for the toilet they would put him in this sand pit and wait until he had relieved himself, once he got the hang of it they would leave the gate open so he could take himself in there, I understand it didn't take long for him to learn to only poo in his sand pit. It would be much easier to clean up if they all went in one area where you could scoop with ease.

Monday 26 April 2010

Illy definitely looks brown in the top photo, lovely dark chocolate brown, she is gorgeous. The other photos she looks black to me, must be the light.

Not used a dirt box Judith, years ago when we had a whippet we tried one of those green poo dustbin things you bury in the ground and that was useless and nowhere as much poo as Musters produce. You and Ali must spend half your day scooping with the amount of dogs you have.

Get well soon Sandra!!

Dirt boxes

I have been thinking of putting a dirt box in the garden for the dogs to poo in.Does anybody out there use one? If so what do you put in it, saw dust or shavings? What is it like if it gets wet?
Still think she's black, must go and get some more chickens!!!!!
Hasn't Illy grown up, Judith and I have just been arguing about her colour as Judith says's she is black!! I must admit she looks black in the photo's.

Poor Sandra has been poorly since WELKS, (Sorry Penny forgot to say WELKS is a Championship show!) anyway I did speak to her earlier and she says hi and well done to Milo and Kody on qualifying at their first show. Hope you feel better soon Sandra, your son in law sends lots of cuddles x x

Illy exploring in Bracknell forest

We went for a nice walk today in Bracknell forest. Illy loves it there, she met a 9-months old English setter called Suzie and they had fun running around together.
Breeze showing Chumleigh just how to fly those ears!Daddy Darcy shows Bree just how to dig the perfect hole!Chumleigh shows she already has the knack to fly those ears .......and for sitting pretty! On the go Bree, who is rapidly growing up.
It's cooler here today, we had a shower of rain first thing which did nothing for the rock hard ground but did freshen the air. Chumleigh has really moved back in as a perfect guest, Alex rang me this morning form the otherside of the world to check on her baby. Chumleigh is really a sweetie and learning to be as gentle as Bree.. The pair enjoy playing but Bree still prefers to snuggle up with me for nap time. Chumleigh on the other hand rather enjoys snuggling with a cat or two!!
Hope you all have had a good weekend, it's all gone a bit too quick for me.

Great pictures Ali! The puppies at WELKS looked lovely, and all seemed to behave themselves so much better than either Cassie or Bailey did on their first run out. The crow was very funny, and very persistant - but it did give us a laugh. Yet again, it was a long day, the judging of the American Cocker took forever, but the weather was good, a little warm for the dogs but a nice breeze, so pleasant for the owners. Bailey was shattered when we got back, we stopped on the way at my local, which has a field out the back, so he was playing with the pub labrador and a female whippet. Tess, the whippet is just coming into season, Bailey was very interested, but couldn't keep up, so no cross munsters -thankfully!
Cassie was most put out being left at home again, I am thinking of entering her for Bournemouth. Hopefully she will have be well on the way to recovery by then and have put the weight back on and re-gained her coat.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone. Beautiful weather here in Bristol, play line-learning in the garden planned for this afternoon, possibly washed down with some chilled white wine!

Puppy Party!

Bree - King of the castle
Bree and sister Ziggy

Here come the girls!!! Bree, Ziggy and Chumleigh

Ziggy sporting a lovely collar
Bree who still hates wearing a collar, she really has a hissy fit, never known one like it!
Chumleigh
Chumleigh who is just so sweet!
Ziggy
Well lot of fun here this morning the puppies have had a party out running about, Ziggy has now gone home but Chumleigh and Bree are crashed and have barely noticed!!
Judith I think Stella should be renamed Magpie, she is always pinching shiny things, but then again it may be all to do with her tummy, are you sure you didn't forget to feed her once, so now she keeps all the dog bowls so you can't forget her at tea time?!?!
Well done Bailey and Mazy for going out and having fun and behaving, winning is a bonus and nice, but going out and having fun is what it's all about. I had a good natter with Lins last night and she said how unfair it was with the bird getting all the attention, well they are bird dogs!!!
Well done Gertie too and all the Narla and Logi babies for their first show too.
Darcy enjoyed his morning up at Mudlarks with Tolly, lots of games and flirting followed by a perfect mating so babies hoped for towards the end of June. Tolly is a Great Grand daughter of Leah and she quite took my breath away when I saw her as it was like looking at a 3 year old Leah, very special indeed, it's odd as I think of my lost dogs living on in my own dogs but to see Leah going on through someone elses breeding was quite moving and special. Tolly is a lovely natured girl, full of character and obviously truly adored, I'm sure she will love sharing her family with her daughter.
Pauline I love the pictures of Troy, he is like his Dad and so handsome like Strider too. I have a photo of Tarka with her head down a hole, it's funny just how I see parts of my oldies in so many of the Munster's on here.
Anyway off to enjoy the weather now, have a great weekend.

Stella

Loves to collect the feeding bowls, when I lay them out to feed the dogs or when all the dogs have finished or even when some are still eating. She just whips the bowl out from under them and stores them all in her crate!!!!! The only dish she has trouble with is Strider's because it is different to all the others !

Lovely pictures of Troy,Pauline in one of the ones that you sent me, he looks so much like Strider.

Friday 23 April 2010

Well done Bailey and Lins at WELKS today, a 3rd and 2nd place so qualified for Crufts. He is such a big softy.

Mazy was more interested in the crow/raven that was sat on the telephone wire right above the ring waiting for us to drop some treats (this livened up the Junior Class), but still behaved really nicely for me, it wasn't our lucky day though. There were lots of young dogs there today and some very nice ones too. Still we had a lovely day, have only just got home. Looking forward to the weekend and the lovely weather.

Hope everything went well at your house today Ali, sorry we didn't see you.

Hi everyone hope you all had a good time at WELKS today. We only usually take Troy to local shows so our first one will be Leeds. We all went for an early morning jaunt today because I had the day off work we went off the beaten path to take some pictures of wild primroses that we had found. You cant resist also taking photos of a munster can you so here are a few. The pic with Troy down the hole is him looking for the hare he flushed out yesterday he knew where it had gone so this morning he went to see if it was still there.

Thursday 22 April 2010

Hi everybody and thank you all for the advice on the potty training. I'm back at school after the Easter Hols and Lola will son be going to the office 3 days a week..!
She climbed out of her puppy pen (not a crate) one night this week and now spends these chilly nights cuddled up with Aunty Mins on the sofa in the conservatory - it's very cold in there in the wee small hours, but they're as warm as toast !
Minden is being a complete star with the baby, so patient and very understanding. Lola is having her last jab on 1st May, so at last we'll be able to get out of the garden and meet real life ! When Mins was about 4 mths we took her to the carnival in the evening - was she fazed about the floats and loud music ? not a bit, curled up on the pavement and went to sleep! Can't wait for all of us to go on little walks down by the river.
My daughter pointed out, that because the weather has been so fantastic, Lolly has hardly been in the house, and maybe hasn't realised the difference between inside and out yet !
Have a good time at WELK -what is it ?????

Sorry no WELKS for us.

I'm sorry to say we wont be at WELKS tomorrow, Darcy has a hot date and these things can't be rushed, as Tolly is coming a long way we have decided to stay home, I think Darcy will have enough on his plate without trying to fit a dog show in as well. So GOOD LUCK to all going tomorrow especially my Blitzan babes, sorry we shall miss out but will be thinking of you all. Safe journeys to you all x x x x
Darcy has had a wash up ready for his date!!!! What's that coming over the hill??? It's Munster!!! or three!
Baby Bree showing she can run too!

Wednesday 21 April 2010

Good luck to all at WELKS, hope to see you there Hannah.

Lovely photos of all your dogs, I nearly got the camera out today, then the batteries were flat, typical. Looking at Bree's cheeky face, I reckon her and Mazy would love to have a play together.
Mazy doesn't quite know what's going on here tonight, we got a Wii today and Mazy think we've gone mad waving things around and all that in the lounge.
GOOD LUCK to people going to WELKS on friday hopefully see some of you there. The pictures are gorgeous
Hannah
Just how much are you loving this weather, we are that's for sure, the water troughs are back in use as thier swimming pool. First off is Tetra flying by! Next is my boy enjoying a cool off.
Handsome as ever! Logi wishes all his and Narla's babies Good luck for their first Championship show on Friday. He isn't entered at WELKS but it has always been alucky show for him so hopefully it will be for his children too.
Baby Bree who reminds me so much of Karen's Mazy, her Aunty.

Please scroll down to see some gorgoeus pictures of Chumleigh, I didn't look before I posted and would hate to lose them so scroll down, Alex she is looking gorgeous. More pictures to come but will leave it for now before Chumleigh is pushed right down!
