Must have crossed posts there, 5.30am is so early! I know you have kids and dont want to disturb them but have you tried ignoring it a few days in a row? These munsters are so clever they do not just try something once, they know persistance can work! Or maybe let him up to your room? Not sure if that is an option, I know everyone has different views of having the dogs sleep in bedroom. Ceilidh sleeps in with me but on her own bed (or under mine) she will only get up when I get up and will happily sleep through until 10am before getting a little restless! Very handy for at weekends! I really do not know what to advise for that I am afraid.
