LMC show
Looks like I'm coming to the club show, not with any dogs apart from tagging along with Ali, James and the dogs they are taking. So any of you I haven't met, please come and say hello, I hope to be showing a puppy next year.
Talented Artist
Lins e mailed me last night with this picture of diva - which she sketched herself, one very talented lady me thinks, I am chuffed to bits as i will get the original form the artist, signed I hope, on Sunday.
Isn't Lins talented.
Also I think it is Lauren looking cold and wet on Judith's pictures am I right?
Horrid Weather!
Judith, you look frozen in that first picture! I've just come back from my afternoon/eve walk, got caught in the rain, nearly blown into the River Severn, but had lit the fire before I left, so the 3 of us are now "steaming" in front it. Any thoughts about going up together on Sunday?
Morning
Have a look at our new "News" site, www.news.thelargemunsterlander.com - the wonders of modern technology! at 8.45 am Ali sent me a picture text message and two hours, many cups of coffee, and "jobs" later - and it is up on the web..... LOL I remember living in a house without electricity, oil lamps etc.,
Finally, yes, the calendars are a brilliant job - thanks to Ali for taking on that job TOO!!!
p.s. Ali can you add a link to the news site from the side here??? PLEASE!!! and ALL of you - you are welcome to join in!!! by e-mail, by mobile phone, by whatever way you like!!!

calendar
Ali, the calendar came yesterday and we were amazed, it it really gorgeous . You all must have worked really hard on it. I hope it makes a lot of money for a good cause.
Hi
Um bit on Sid well hes just Sid, I'm not sure what the noise and body lauage is for most of the time, cos if he were alloud to go and say hello to the other dog most times he would have a sniff wag his tail and sometime want to play too, there is the odd dog Sid would want to go for a bit but only if that dog had given him a nasty look or barked/growled first and he is the same with who ever is leading him and if Ilka is there or not, so Ilka does not know that Sids not really bothered by the other dog, anyway should be going to training again next week, and we will see if her season has helped.
Ps got some friends down but have not seen there dogs yet they leave them in their holiday cottage, but might see them tonight as might go for a walk on exmoor.
Am not going to club show think it was to far, our next show is SW gundog on 18th oct (also my sisters 13th birthday)

Ringcraft Classes
Just back from Cassie's first ringcraft class. I don't have any thing to compare it to, but it seemed quite good, only cost £1 for a hour and a half. Mainly socialisation but a fair bit of one-on-one and some good advice. Cassie actually managed to stand (instead of sitting) and moved really well. I will have to keep practising what we've learnt from now until Sunday. There were about 14 dogs, and an owner of a flat coated retriever who actually knew what Cassie was and had been considering getting one! We're also going beating in a couple of weeks, I'll just keep her on a lead and see what she's like with the guns. Hopefully I'm booked onto the Gun Dog Training Day in November so we can progress from there.
LMC Show
I will be there on Sunday with Cassie and Louis (NFC). Cassie will get one session at ring classes beforehand, so I'm not expecting much from her, but the practice/experience will be good for her. Hope the drive isn't too much for me - Judith do you fancy sharing fuel costs and going up together? I could always leave Louis at home if there's not room for him.
I did a little painting myself at the weekend, just the chimney wall of my living room. Cassie only managed to put one paw in the paint tray - unfortunately she had walked all over the house before I realised! I think I've managed to get it all off her foot - don't want her being disqualified on Sunday because she's got "chocolate shake" markings.

LMC Club show
Must also mention that there will be Paraphernalia at the club show, selling Gundog Training equipment, clothing, featuring the clubs motif, car stickers, Munsterlander profiles - hanging basket brackets, letter racks, wind chimes in fact all sorts, so don't forget to bring your purse!
As I said before great Christmas presents.
Please note there will be food available at this show.

Club show
Sarah there is indeed a raffle at the show, all donations gratefully received. Also Rosie as your not entered you can not go within the precincts of the show with Ringo but Car park is fine and to be honest a lot of people hang out there walking dogs etc: so he will get to me lots of Munsters, and yes I'm sure you and Sarah can take turns puppy sitting! In future Rosie you could enter Ringo Not for Competition and then he could walk around like Kaia, just for future information.
Anyway don't forget to bring money for the raffle there are lots of good prizes and some will make lovely Christmas pressies! oh as do the AHT calendars which will also be on sale!!!!!!
Any members of the LMC going to the show but not entered let me know and i will bring your newsletters with me, all saves on postage!

Car park munsters
Rosie - if you have filled in an entry form and entered Ringo as 'not for competition' he will be allowed into the show ground, if not he will have to stay in the carpark area with Loki. I have entered Kaia 'nfc' so will be able to take her in to say hello if i can get a loki-sitter!
Is the show outside as Kaia has a terrible habit of wetting when she meets other dogs at shows, very embarrasing.

LMC Show
We are coming with Ringo as we only live a couple of miles away. We are not sure how these shows go and are only coming to meet you all. I can't wait to meet everyone. Do we have to stay in the car park as we are not showing. We will keep Loki company . I said to him today if his not a good boy this week he won't meet some of his relatives next week. I was 50 last friday and we had a party Ringo was so exicited he got into a right state we have a really funny video my daughter in law took of Ringo greeting my son we will try and post it sometime it is hilarious,
Poor Loki being left at the car park, he will love his visitors throughout the day though. Ceilidh is finally getting over her phantom and I am hoping she will start to grow some hair back because she is naked, not a bare as Diva but not far off! I am thinking about taking her to a gun dog trainer because I have not got a clue how to train a dog for a shoot so they will help me to do it and that way I will know for the future. I have a lot of friends back home who want to see her in action and are willing to take her on shoots after training so she will love it! Sounds like everyone has been busy, you new kitchen looks lovely Karen, Maggie and Tilly look rather smitten with it. Karen it sounds like Domino is improving, collies can upset some dogs because they throw awful looks. Lyn was telling me about thaton one of our walks, hers do not do it because they are such softies.
LMC Show
I will be at the show next Sunday, and both Kaia and Loki are coming too. Both are NFC but Loki misses the 4 month cutoff point by one day so will be confined to the car park, but please come over and say hi to him, the more socialisation the better.
Does anyone know if there is going to be a raffle again this show?

Nellie and club show
Well done Nellie, what a lovely picture too. James is really into the Good citizen scheme since he and Judith did it at Birmingham, he now wants to get Summer right through to her gold. He is also looking forward to the LMC show next Sunday, he is stewarding for the day so he is really looking forward to it. Not sure which of my lot will actually make it to the show, Diva is still far too bald to go, Prima - well she is giving off smells that are driving the others mad and she is a little swollen, say no more but hope she wont be able to come. Logi and Tarka are the only other two entered, the way Tarka is at the moment I'm sure she would love the day out but will have to play it by ear, don't want to over do it with her.
Who else is planning on going to the show???

Congratulations to Nellie
Catch up
Tarka barker, is so full of energy she has had her blood test her liver function test is still raised but only just above the normal range, I am keeping her on a special diet, high Carbohydrate and low protein diet, fresh cooked chicken and rice, her special hepatic tins and a little senior biscuit. She is bright as a button, she is such a wonderful girl I am just so relieved she is back to reasonable health, but above all she is back to her happy self, despite having had a mad moment with the hay!!!!
Glorious day here, done some painting, cut some grass, need to go out and get some rabbit food then home to work on the PC. Jamie has walked the dogs, Andrew is at work, so all in all a nice way to spend a Saturday.
Karen I'm very envious of your gorgeous kitchen, I want one!!!! It really is lovely and well worth all the upheaval I'm sure, still open to offers for a painting party, maybe we could make it a weekend, one day painting and one day out with the dogs and a pub lunch, Lins with your bad back you could just direct and coordinate! Seriously though have nearly finished James room and the hallway, just need Andrew to do the fiddly bits! (Could be waiting a while then ;-) !!)

Lovely kitchen
I love your new kitchen Karen, especially the doggy cupboard! We have just had a new oven and seems to be the same one you have had - still havent worked ours out properly yet.
Maggie looks great too and I am very jealous of Maggies wonderful full fluffy tail on daily dog, I wish Kaias would grow in like that. I think considering sisters they are starting to look a little different now, in body shape mostly - here is Kaia last week...

New Kitchen pics
As promised here are pics of my new kitchen, which I love. It has been finished a while now but haven't gotten round to painting the walls yet - can't decide on a colour, but probably be similar to what we have now.
Dining area bit with this years Munster calendar hanging up!
Utility is great, I have 4 cuboards just for dogs - one for food, one for treats, one for spare leads, collars and so on and one for medicine and injury stuff - I got in there first before Frank could fill them )lol
And most importantly doggy bedroom which is great for Maggie and Tilly, they love their little corner, may have to rearrange sleeping arangements next year when we have a new addition though )lol

Sophie
When Sasha (the GSD bitch) was still alive, I had a problem with Louis lunging and barking at other dogs. It was almost as if he was protecting his "bitches"! He never actually came to blows with other dogs but, being a large GSD, he worried a lot of owners. However, since Sasha has gone he's completely calmed down, greets other dogs tail wagging and kissing. Sasha bullied him totally, obviously it's true what they say about the bullied become the bullies. These days it's Cassie who barks at other dogs, but only in an excited to see you kind of way. With Sid, I guess that his body language (tail erect) will cause an adverse reaction in other dogs - perhaps you could tie a white flag to it! Glad you managed to avoid the dog mess, even if you did end up on the ground.....
Great pics Karen and on Munstermag.
Part of the trouble with both dogs can be that Sid (with his bit of terrier) with some dogs likes to do the whole 'rah rah rah rah rah' with his little tail in the air ect (if you get what I mean) I normally stop him or don't let him start or make them both sit, cos he sets Ilka off who then tries to pull and grumble as well but when hopping around and then flat on my front all I could do was hold the leads and shout at them, and with Sid's noise I gave up and just laughed with embarrassment until they went past.
So it was lucky I did not have Sid with me yesterday or there could have been more trouble with the goldens.

photos of afternoon walk
Maggie flushed one of the young pheasants they have just released ready for the shooting season today. Got very excited about it, and went hunting for more. Completey ignored me when I called her. Oh dear this is what I have to come for the next few months. The third picture down is just after she flushed it and she is looking to see where it went. It quite funny really, Nellie and Tilly look very sedate on a walk compared to Maggie who is so busy rushing back and forth.
Sophie, sounds like you had quite an eventful day! Glad you found it funny, not so funny at the time though I'm sure. Mind you, you're young and probably recover quickly. Maggie has almost dragged me over sometimes in a rush to go and greet someone, if I'm not prepared, they can be very strong when they want to be.
He he
I'm glad there was no one else with me and no cameras but I can imagine the photo.
Another thing happened earlier (this time no fault of me or dogs) I was going down to the village to post a couple of letters for Dad (thinking should have sent cheque for a calender) so took Ilka with me let her have a quick run in the field to 'go' if she wanted to, then came out as The Mayoress (not her name but a woman who thinks she runs the village sort of thing) with her two fat goldies both on those extendable lead thingys, one of them really went for Ilka, I had Ilka under control so moved her the other side of me, and was pretty much shouting NO and fending off with a leg / half aiming to kick at this goldie and he would have had a kick if he had got any closer but I was backing off with Ilka behind me and The Mayoress eventually got it back on a shorter lead and appologised, while Ilka sat there and had a little grumble and a small bark so I stopped her, but the goldie still wanted her.

Excited Greetings
Cassie is also always very excited to greet people, but non more so than my sister. I think it stems from the fact that she was the one who comforted her on the journey from her Mum to her new home, putting up with the sick and poo that ended up all over the back of the car during the 3 hr journey! I have to make sure that my sister is sat down before I let Cassie "at her", as otherwise she would be knocked over. Somehow Cassie always manages to leave her mark on my sister's clothes - generally a muddy footprint in the middle of her top! She gets forgiven because of the amount of kisses and cuddles that follow.
Painting party sounds like a good idea, Ali - count me in! Even if it's too much for my back, I'm sure I can manage refreshments for the workers.

Sophie and excited dogs
What a shame you didn't have someone with you to take a photo, sounds like you were having fun.
Domino always has and still does get very excited when visitors come. They are told to completely ignore her, some visitors manage it and some don't. When she has calmed down, we let Domino greet the visitors, but even then she can start to get excited again but not as bad and they may have to ignore her again. If it's someone at the front door that isn't coming in, I will put Domino in another room.
I took Domino to meet a pet behaviourist yesterday, for a socialisation session, had a lovely time but Domino seems to be unsure how she should greet another dog, she's very controlling but then backs away if there's a chance of confrontation. So we're not going to indoor dog training now (seemed to be making her worse), and looking for outside training to help control Domino better when we're out.
Mind you, after walking a friend's springer spaniel this morning and nearly losing him, I really don't think we have too much of a problem with Domino. How do you tell someone that their dog is totally out of control, he wouldn't even sit when I asked him, let along come back to us.
That's lovely to hear the rescue dog has a home.

Glad Tarka is doing well and that rescue boy got a home.
Great pics.
Ilka finished her season so should be ok with the friends dogs coming down on sat, the last few days of her season Sid finally worked out he was a boy but by then Ilka was getting less interested.
The other day I was going into the field with the dogs and some one I knew was coming up the road with a dog so both dogs pulled and tried to get to it, while I was hopping about in the gateway trying to avoid some dog mess* then some how (they must have caught me off balance) I ended flat on my front a lead in each hand, half in the hedge (to avoid dog mess) and digging my toes in the ground you get the idea, the girl then went past so could drag them back, I laughed but with one arm in stinging nettles and the other inches away from dog mess it was not much fun (at the time though now quite funny) then coming out the field she was coming back but I'd got out the gate way so made them sit and all was fine.
*(not ours aperson must have let there dog do it and not picked it up, the last time Dad caught some one letting there dog do this he picked it up on a shovel walked down the road with it into the village, the person happened to be stood in there porch chatting to a neighbour so he said 'I think this is yours', through it in their hall and walked back home lol)
Ilka used to get excited and pee she grew out of it but can still get excited though you can stop her from getting really daft.

Excitment greeting visitors
Rosie Hudson is very excitable when people arrive he has a tendancy to tiddle on the floor with excitment!, We are finding it best to leave him in the kitchen untill he calms down a bit and then bring him out,
Hi
We have posted cheque yesterday for calendar , I took Ringo to the post box to help. Glad Tarka is feeling better. Ringo Recall is quite good and Pete has him sitting to hand signals while quite far away his recall is not 100 percent as when he gets up to the farm he loses his head sometimes with all the smells and has been off a few times not as bad as Stig was as he bogged off over many fields and was always back on the training lead I'm sure with Hudson its just exitement, We are waiting to see how he behaves to morrow as I am 50 and expecting to have a little family gathering well I say little I've got 5 brothers and =sister's and all with their children plus other relatives I'm sure they won't all want a Ringo backpack:) last week when my son and daughter in law came home from two weeks in cyprus he did not know what to do he was crying with excitment to see them. Does any one elses get so excited, He also gets a bit silly when Pete goes out he cries and howls until,he cocmes home , He actually throws his head back and goes for it, He doesn't even notice if I go just Pete, He loves us all but Pete he seems to be really close to.

Painting Party
Could always get the dogs to help!! LOL
Sorry to hear about Tarka fingers and paws crossed for her x
Having trouble with Hudson's recall at the moment very scarey a couple of times he has run into the road at the end of his walk, luckily it was at a quiet time in the morning. Training class have been great though and i am meeting the trainers for a walk on Sunday morning to practise things away from the class so hoepfully we will crack it!!

So much to do and no time or energy to do it, had a friend make a great suggestion today - A painting party!!!!
I supply the paint and rollers, a few glasses of wine and the friends do the painting, anyone fancy it, only stipulation is you have to dodge the dogs!!!!! ALL VOLUNTEERS WELCOME! ;-)
Tarka Update:
Well she is bionic and doing really well, I can't believe this is the end for her so is so full of life. She is on no special medication, anti-biotics in case, and a special hepatic diet, (£2:25 a tin She is well worth if of course) But having had 13 years and 7 months of never doing anything wrong she has started to make up for it today, I left her in the landrover today and she jumped through the seats to the back seat, which is fine but then she decided to open the plastic bale of hay (for Jamies Rabbits) spread it about, make a bed in it and wear it!!!! It was everywhere the little minx! I told Andrew she had been a minx as Tarka is never naughty and as it's his car I think it was lucky it was Tarka and not one of the others as she got off Scott free, the others would of been in terrible trouble!! So not naughty just a minx, she also ran right across the field with the others today, keeping up with the youngest. I can't wait till she has her blood test tomorrow so we no for sure - fingers crossed, but really can't be she is in complete liver failure can you.
I also hear that Rae at Rescue has now got someone for the boy I previously mentioned, I know we had two people who saw him and wanted him from the bog, but not sure who is in line for him but whoever it is I'm sure he will have a wonderful home, so another happy ending.
Cheques are pouring in for the calendars now and I am sending them out as they arrive, we are having to have a re-print as they are going so well, thanks so much for supporting the Animal Health Trust.

A play in the wheat field
The bale Maggie managed to jump on was a small one we found. Nellie (the whippet) thought this quite boring as she jumps on the big ones quite easily, but Maggie was thrilled to be able to join her on one! Didn't do a lot of running around this afternoon - to warm I think. Been a gorgeous day here today.

Tarka / Photos
Tarka update
Tarka is back home with me after spending the day in the vets on a drip, but thats another story.......
It is not her pancreas but it is her live causing this problems. The vet was very doom and gloom but I have to say she has really picked up, she has been given a prescription diet which she is actually eating very well, she now drinking as well so no more syringing, her skin is not tight on her body now and she is just so much brighter. Fingers crossed it's just a blip, afterall the liver can regenerate itself and it was not complete failure. The odd thing is I had full bloods and urine tests done three weeks ago as part of her MOT and she was pronounces 100% fit nothing was wrong. So that points to a viral problem even more.
Thanks to all for your kind words in e mail and phone calls, have to say it's been so worrying, my special girl Tarka means the world to me and yes she is 13 1/2 but she has been so fit and well that I can't believe it's total liver failure (the vets don't know if it is a virus of complete failure, the only way they will know is by how she picks up or not) she is so much brighter and happier, not out of the woods yet but I feel positive. God I hope I'm right.
It is not her pancreas but it is her live causing this problems. Flicker
I wonder if they were calmer in the candle light because of the type of bulbs we are now using. All of the energy efficient flourescent lamps flicker at 100 times a second and I wonder if dogs can see this. Some humans can but not many, but, everyone can be aware of this even though most people cannot see it. Incandescent light bulbs and flames of course do not do this and give a more stable light.
Or possibly the dogs like the smell of burning candles.

Tarka
Ali, sorry to hear about Tarka. I had a German Shepherd with Pancreatitis, but she was quite young at the time and recovered well. All I can remember is the vomit and awful smelling mucus type poo. She was given some kind of crystals to mix in with her food for a few months until she was better. I was warned that it could re-occur, but thankfully it never did. I hope that Tarka gets her strength back soon, will be thinking of you both. I'll collect my calendar and pay you at the show if that's okay (I think you said in your e-mail that would be alright) - let me know if it's not and I'll pop a check in the post.
My "lodgers" should be off later today, and the house should be more peacefull and cleaner! I popped out last night so tied up the door to the living room with a dressing gown cord to stop Six getting at the front door and locking me out again. He even managed to get past that, and then tried to chew his way through the cord to get back in with the others! Thankfully he didn't manage to lock me out this time. The street then had a power cut, so I had a couple of hours in candle light. This, amazingly seemed to have a very calming effect on all the dogs, maybe it was some kind of aromatherapy??????

I have had loads of helpful e mails from people who I don't even know but enjoy reading the blog. Tarka is now in the vets on a drip, usually I wouldn't leave her but she is so sleepy that I think she just needs to crash out. First thing i thought there was no change but when I got ready to go out she was up at the door insisting she came with me, and when she got to the car she jumped in before I could lift her in and then barked out of excitement, so that is a huge improvement, she did have a wee so she can't be too dehydrated can she? I rang Graham, my vet his morning, I haven't been able to see him with Tarka and he told me to get her in straight away as she could die with Pancreatitis. That being said I'm not sure it is, I have read loads and Karen the papers you sent me were very useful but she hasn't got Diarrhea, she isn't play bowing and stretching as suggested for stomach pains, I don't know maybe I am being too hopeful, but just didn't seem to fit 100%, but then Munsterlanders never read the text book first do they, they always have extra odd symptoms or miss out some of the major ones, so I suppose I really don't know. Her blood results should be back this morning, thanks Elle but the vets had already taken a blood sample. Truly though thanks to everyone who have sent me advice and info and others who have sent love and kisses for Tarka, it all helps no end. Will up date later, thanks all.

Lovely pictures of show stands. I do like the free standing especially when they stand like Loki and Rumour - they look so noble.

Sorry not been on much this week. I have had a week off work and havn't been on the pc much - been enjoying spending all my time with Maggie having fun. Back to normal next week though.

Help and advice please, Tarka is quite ill
Tarka who is now 13 1/2 is a very poorly girl. It started at 11pm Tuesday night she was sick all night the last time was at 6:50 am. Straight to the vets at 8am and she was given an anti-sickness jab. She picked up during the day and actually ate some chicken and rice last night which stayed down.
Today however she is a lot worse, in a lot of pain, skin very taut on her body, palish gums, coat dull and stary. NOW she won't eat so back to vets and she has had a painkiller jab and anti-biotic jab, neither have made her more comfortable yet. The vet thinks it may be pancreatitis, something I have never had with any dog before. I have to syringe fluids down her, lectatde and water, and she may yet end up in the vets on a drip.
Has anyone on this blog or anyone who just reads the blog ever had this with a dog???? If so any hints, tips on how to help her through this? She is already quite weak and stumbly when she walks so it it so important i get her on the right track asap.
My e mail is blitzanmunsters@yahoo.co.uk all suggestions and advice gratefully received - Thanks.
