Seemingly they plan on egg & flouring dogs as they go into the halls. And there is some US reporter supposed to be there too acting on behalf of Jemima Harrison, the woman who made the BBC documentary, people be vigilant.
What upsets me is they are saying no one should breed dogs, that means everyone should only have mongrels who run around the streets, mating any old dog having umpteen puppies and ending up in Rescue societies. Surely the better and more responsible way should be to educate responsible ownership to the mongrel owners. At least with pedigree's such as our Munsterlanders health checks are done first, we don't breed from the young or the old and we breed for people who want. There are a lot of unwanted dogs but why not stop that happening by not allowing people who let thier dogs run loose and don't care if they get mated or not.
I can understand the thought of breeding for just cosmetics is distasteful but how many of the 1000's of breeds does that actually affect. I always try to breed a healthy, happy dog that can do what it was bred for and whilst I want the closest to the breed standard our breed standard is the same as the dogs have always been.
IT is a case of ignorance, they plan to protest where dogs and children will be frightened, the only way forward and the only way to stop unwanted stray dogs is to promote responsible breeding, with health checks and age limits. At least with any of my puppies who go to families who have circumstances change, they all come back to me. I will always make room for any of my babies to come back if they can't stay with thier family, if I can't take one in I will always know someone who will help out, there is never a need for mine to end up in a Dogs home.
The other thing to remember is most breeds have a breed rescue like we do, LMR, and they are far better placed to rehome a Munsterlander knowing the breed as well as they do.
