Tarka - A Grand Old Lady

Many years ago we drove down to Cornwall and ended up coming home with this gorgeous 8 week old puppy who looked like a fully grown blue roan Cocker Spaniel. We had struggled to come up with a name, the other dogs we had were, Tosca, Elliot, Snoopy, Allea Dog and Bertie, so no real theme there. It was a three hour trip home so it gave Andrew and I lots of time to mull over a name. We started firing names around but there wasn't one that suited her and that we both liked, it got to the stage of saying what we saw, in fact got very silly when one of us mentioned Transit after seeing a Van drive past!!!! All of a sudden as we got near to home we passed a sign to the Tarka Trail, living as we did then in Torrington, Devon we lived right where Tarka the otter was written and based, as these dogs swim so naturally it seemed to suit her perfectly!!!
